Hi All,
I am an experienced bassist in both an originals and covers capacity. I have had an idea bouncing around my head for a while now and decided to finally put this into action; a singer and guitarist have already shown serious interesting, so just drums remaining to complete a line-up.
I am looking to form a cover band of a particular flavour. The idea is a more modern cover band than your standard 'Summer of 69' malarkey (i.e. most songs being from the last 30 years, targeting the general 20-40 age range). This isn't a strict criteria - older and newer songs will feature, just not be the main event.
I hope for the setlist to be a real mixture of great songs across the most popular genres of the era, with a particular focus on 90s and 2000s pop bangers (think Britney, Scissor Sisters, Kelly Clarkson, No Doubt... the list is endless) as well as some standard rock songs (Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age and the like), some funkier stuff (think Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake). I think a lot of the pop of that era has real potential to (if played really tightly, livened up a bit and well orchestrated) make a really interesting and enjoyable set that's a bit different to the normal cover band experience.
As I say, it needs to be tight and well-executed to pull this off, so decent musicianship is required. Many songs will need to be changed a lot to make them work, which should be a fun exercise!
In terms of gig schedule, I think once/twice a month is about the target - I have done the covers circuit enough to know that picking your gigs is the best approach, so quality gigs over quantity - happy to play good pubs and venues, as well as events, weddings etc (which are great £).
Please do get in touch if you like the idea and are a drummer.
Thanks!
Dominic
