About Us
***********
We are MechAnimal, a new metal project blending big, crushing riffs, elegant melodies, ambient synth pads and sci-fi themes and lyrics that explore technology and the future and what it means for the human condition. We’re emphasising writing songy-songs, not just heavy for the sake of it but thought through carefully to be as good as possible.
Influences include Fightstar, Deftones, Gunship, Midnight Danger.
We are currently a bass player and 2 guitarists/vocalists that make up 3/5ths of Rose of Sharyn, based in Sheffield and Barnsley. We’re aged between 30 and 40 and have loads of experience gigging and recording. We all have our own equipment including in-ear monitors.
We currently have a handful of rough demos worked out and recorded with a number of others in the pipeline. The current goal is to get 6-7 songs (including a Deftones cover) fully fleshed out and ready to go so we can start gigging and seeing what works.
Medium-term, the plan is to start recording the best ones to a professional standard and start putting them out. Our lead singer/guitarist is a producer/recording engineer so can take care of this. Gig-wise, we’re aiming to do a show or 2 per month - nothing crazy as we all have home lives.

What We’re Looking For
****************************
In short, a really good f***king drummer!
Ideally you’ll have a good musical background - not only good drumming ability but good musical sense, and a sense of how to write songs and figure out what works and what doesn’t. Someone who plays in the service of the song and what’s needed rather than showing off with loads of fills and fast kicks. To be honest, a background in non-metal music would probably be ideal.
In terms of ability, we’re looking for someone with an excellent sense of feel and groove, who can take an average beat and give it extra movement and a bit of special sauce and take the song to a new level. You’ll need to be able to play double kick but we’re not bothered about 32th-note blast beats or playing at 250bpm.
The plan is to play to a click/backing track live (at least in the medium-term) so it’d be an advantage to have experience with this. It’d also be nice if you have experience recording although this is not essential.
We’re not fussed about age (although you’ll need to be over eighteen), gender, race or anything like that. As long as you’re good enough, reliable and pleasant to be around, we’ll be happy to have you.
Hit me up on here if you’re interested - I can share the demos and we can have a chat about going forward.
