We are a group of musicians and singers that got together to create a new big band, a modern take on the Blues Brothers Band/Commitments, with a focus on soul, funk and brass, but with a pop feeling. We are all contributing to this UNPAID project. We share the cost of the rehearsal space. We meet every two weeks on Tuesday evening.
Style-wise, to think what a modern take on the Blues Brothers and the
Commitments might sound, you can check Ripe (On My Mind), PB Underground and Jason Mraz' live version of Butterfly (not the studio one) on Spotify. Overall, I am looking to produce a sound that is a little less squared than classic soul and funk. Some might say fusion, I prefer talking about syncopation and clear breaks. I am not looking to put together a fusion band. Not. At. All. But I also outgrew classic soul after ages of performing it and I want to use a sound that is more diversified as the key to rearrange famous/current songs.
We started to put together the sound, and the objective is to move as quickly as possible to feeling confident to arrange our own covers of famous songs in brass/soul style and then tape a demo and start playing.
Unfortunately, just as we completed our formation, our drummer had to tap out. We are in desperate need to replace him ASAP. Our next rehearsals will be on Tuesday 16th, in the evening (7 to 10). If you are interested, get in touch and let's get the ball rolling!
PLEASE NOTE that we do not have a producer AND that we are not paid AND that we share the cost of the rehearsal space. We are looking for people willing to put in their time for free at the beginning and reap the benefits as soon as we start. We DO NOT have a demo, nor gigs as we are literally beginning now.
We have great confidence in the commercial potential of this project. Genre-cover bands are massive, they get paid a little more and tour a bit more than the other bands!
To recap: big band, fun genre, original arrangements, self-produced, just started! If you are interested, let us know!
