I'm a drummer looking to form an improvisation/jam type band.
I'm wanting to form a band that is comfortable jamming and improvising in a live environment. It doesn't have to be 100% improvised every gig, but I'm looking to do something where I can just let loose a little bit more and create interesting music on the spot.
For this band, I'm influenced by kraut rock, post punk, psychedelic rock, Jazz (I'm not some snobby purist though), Japanese noise rock (which doesn't mean just pure noise), avant garde & minimalist music, and other types of music which include improvisation in some way.
This ad is open to any instruments of any ability level (vocalists and beat poets are also welcome). I just want people who are either brave or stupid enough to make things up on the spot and not be too self conscious about making mistakes.
My usual drumming style blends the rhythmic with the melodic and textured. I'm heavily influenced by linear funk. I tend to keep a strong pulse going underneath, whilst putting more loose and melodic stuff over the top. This means that I can respond to what the other musicians are doing whilst also keeping a strong rhythm that they can use as a base for their creativity. I tend to attach a lot of fun percussion toys to my kit, such as cow bell, woodblock, vibraslap, kitchen pans, etc. I try to make my drumming textured and colourful.
I'm also always changing and developing my drumming style; practicing new techniques and coming up with ideas for new things I can do to extend my pallet and be more creative, etc.
I would like to play gigs where we improvise and do fresh exciting things. I would also like to experiment with mixing in other types of performance art and possibly wearing costumes and interesting clothing (this would be optional though, so don't let that put you off).
Please message me if you would be interested in being in a band like this. I will accept all instruments and all ability levels. The important thing is your creativity and how you manage to compliment the other musicians, not your technique or experience level.
I'm in other bands (I'm not some band monogamist), but I don't get the opportunity to improvise in a live situation in either of them, so feel I need to start a new one to play in alongside them.
