I'm looking for a drummer and bassist/singer to start a band to play original songs in the style of Grunge/Prog, but with touches of metal, classical and folk.
The aim would be to build a tight live set, record properly, and play gigs regularly.
I have 4 songs we could start with, (see 2 demos for them in this link - https://joshuajones1.bandcamp.com/album/demo-songs-for-starting-band ) plus lots of other half finished ideas and I'd also be happy for us all to contribute song writing (though that's up to you).
Who am I?
I'm a 36 year old song writer, singer, guitarist and pianist. Heavily influenced by Radiohead, Muse, Linkin Park, Karnivool, Incubus. Also into most of everything else ranging from Rachmaninoff and Jamiroquai to Massive Attack and Fink. I'm in the process of building a sound-proofed studio where I live in Weston Longville so we will have free rehearsal and recording space.
Here are a few things that I think would be really important in establishing a successful band.
We can of course discuss and add other stuff. It may seem a bit 'serious', but clearly we don't want to end up getting frustrated if we're after different things.
1 - Commitment and punctuality
We practice every week on the agreed day and arrive on time, ready to play. Life happens, but regular absence or lateness suggests this band may not be the right fit.
2 - Preparation and focused rehearsals
We learn, write, and practice our parts between rehearsals. Rehearsal time is purposeful and agreed in advance.
3 - Developing the set
At least half of rehearsal time is spent working on the set. We record, review, and refine to improve performance.
4 - Democratic decisions
All ideas for songs are welcome and explored, but what makes it into the set is decided by discussion and, where needed, a vote.
5 - Feedback and communication without ego
Feedback is given with respect and received openly. If something isn’t working—musically or personally—we say it early and directly. The song always comes first.
6 - Regular, engaged communication
We stay engaged between rehearsals. If things are being discussed, we respond and contribute.
If you're interested then reach out and we can have a chat and a jam and see where it goes. I look forward to hearing from you!
