mystringtheory

I’m looking for a vocalist with an original sound for an originals project that combines electronic beats with real instruments. Although these recordings are old now, please first have a listen to my soundcloud which is “mystringtheory” – the first listing if you google this.
I’m a guitarist and instrumentalist who wants to develop this sound further and needs a vocalist (or vocalists) to help, male or female. This could be anything from one-off recordings but ideally as part of a long-term collaboration. The idea is to create a cool sound influence by the Bristol sound of bands like Massive Attack as well as the electronic cross-over of Radiohead and others. I want to have interesting chords and textures, a kind of dark yet uplifting vibe, underpinned by a really fat rhythm section influenced by hip-hop, drum and bass and electronica.
For vocals, I’m looking for someone who sounds a bit original and whose voice isn’t defined by a specific genre. I quite like floaty, dreamy vocals that are not too forced and add contrast to a heavy bottom end.
Ideally, the aim is to form a longer-term partnership and build a full band which will include real instruments and electronic elements. To start with however, it can be as simple as some drum loops, guitar, loop station and vocals. Since I’ve been working on the material for some time, I’m looking for someone who is happy to come in and work with the existing material – co-writing is definitely an aim but that is something that should develop naturally over time.
The aim is to build a band, enjoy playing together, make some recordings, play some cool gigs – with a view to taking things seriously and ultimately making some money from it. But these things take a bit of time and hard work, so being able to enjoy the ride is critical.
Another main point is that I live in Cambridge not Norfolk. So a bit of two-way travel by both parties would be useful to make things work.
About me, I’m 44 so if that’s an issue then obviously don’t get in touch!
If you would like to get in touch, please ensure the following:
• You have listened to the soundcloud and are interested in this kind of music
• You have a recording of your singing you are able to share either via a link or via email (see soundcloud page) – it doesn’t matter if it’s something recorded a capella very basically on a phone, but I need to hear something
• You have an enthusiastic attitude and are serious about making music and putting some time and effort into it. That doesn’t necessarily mean you need to commit lots of time, but that you are focused and reliable.
Apologies for the essay above! I hope it makes sense and thanks for reading.
