I'm currently running Open Mic nights at the Royal Oak in Halifax Town Centre, these occur on Wednesday nights and sometimes Tuesday. I've been soundchecking my own tracks and have a setlist that's sounding stronger with each week, and would now like to dig out a bassist and electric guitarist, who can also switch to semi-acoustic for certain songs.
I'm running full tracks through a 2000w speaker system then singing over them, but the floor gap for a bass amp and guitar amp is becoming obvious. The space I'm operating in is quite small, so a drummer isn't yet required as it'd drown out the vocals. My idea is to flesh things out with bass and guitar then maybe have someone operating a MIDI synth, then arrange gigs both in the Royal Oak and further afield.
Age and body size don't matter, but I do need people who can feel their way into a track without being given too many guidelines. For example, I don't read music and can't tell you whether you should be playing a C-sharp or whatever! It's a case of plug in and see what you can do over a track that is already at a decent level.
This ad is also serving to get people coming down to the open mics who want to do their own thing, whether it be singer/songwriters, stand up comedians, karaoke, or grimoire poetry with a raven on your shoulder. I'm also in there on weekend nights if you want to stick your nose in for a chat or drink a real ale with a crazy name, just ask for Scott.
Feel free to message me via here if you have any questions before you come down, but I much prefer face-to-face conversation over internet tennis...
