I’m looking to recruit a guitarist (lead & rhythm) for a Cher tribute band.
Before you turn off at the ‘Cher’ tag. Yes, there are some ‘cheesy’ crowd pleasers in there, but as a predominantly rock player, I was personally, pleasantly, surprised to see some really well written songs in the set. It’s been a nice challenge to play the different genres she has covered over the years. The set is covering a few from the early years & ranging through to her latest releases but I promise not “I Got You Babe”! 😉
We are looking to get on the tribute circuit &, after a few low-key gigs, we are initially aiming at 12 to 18 good standard gigs per year (ish). We will see how things work out; it could be more.
The line up is complete except for a great guitar player. We have Lead Vocals, Keys with BVs, Drums, Bass & Backing Vocalist. The set is chosen & rehearsals are ongoing, with circa 50% of the set at a good level.
We mainly rehearse in Huddersfield or Halifax. We are not carrying out weekly rehearsals yet but will step up the pace when we have a full line up. The band is a relaxed & fun-loving group of people & although we take the music seriously, we also have fun.
It is expected for each player to do their homework & arrive at rehearsals fully prepared. Additional sessions can be held with Bass & Keys to help our new guitarist to learn songs & get up to speed.
Ideally, we are looking for a player who can also provide backing vocals but with a lead vocal & 2 other backing vocalists in the band it’s not a showstopper.
It goes without saying that we are looking for someone with pro attitude, great gear, own transport etc.
I've got to be honest & admit that I've received a few applications from pro standard players looking for a wage, whereas we are hobby players who are aspiring to play gigs on the tribute circuit.
The Cher project is a start-up & there's a lot of work to do before we can be playing regular tribute gigs.
All the other players in the Cher band have played together before & play well as a unit, getting up to speed won’t take long at all.
