Bored of every identikit pub band churning out the same old covers? But would still like to gig, entertain and play stuff people like?
Performing covers in a lo-fi way using programmed drums and bass adding keys and weirdness to present a show with a theme.
What's the theme you ask? Why, we are a garage band from Planet Omicron Persei One sent to Earth on the spaceship Capricorn 5 to rescue you from endless covers of Sex on Fire and Mr Brightside by performing electronic versions of early Motown numbers to cover the same theme and story as Hawkwind's 1973 Space Ritual.
It's important you buy into the theme and commit to it. We will be working on a full set including theatrics and dressing the same on stage. Think The History of Future Folk, but garagey lofi instead of bluegrass, because that's all I know! Touchstones will be The Rezillos, Devo, The Aquabats, The Mummies, early Roxy Music and anything where someone plays with the knobs .
I can play the guitar, sing a bit, programme stuff and play bad keyboard and twiddle knobs. You can do one of those things at least. Or you could just dance about, whatever works.
Some ideas for instruments: Korg Volca array, a theremin, a stylophone, a kazoo , a Dub Siren, trigger samples from launchpad.
Expecting the band to be a 3 piece plus a full time dancer. I know Hawkwind had Stacia, but they also had Tony Crerar and others. Plus it's 2023 next week so you can be whatever you want to be as long as you are prepared to dance wearing a homemade spacesuit.
Would want to have a themed stage set including back projection and a laser, set list so far:
5 4 3 2 1 (Manfred Mann), I hear you calling, Promised Land, Route 66, Planet Earth (Duran Duran),I idolize you (ike and tina),Shaking All Over, Please don’t touch, Travelin Band, What Goes Up, Must Come Down, Midnight Moses, Money, Chains (The Cookies), You keep me hanging on, War,( edwin starr),I think we’re alone now, Hit me baby one more time, Leaving here.
Up to the point where I have programmed midi for drums and bass, with sci-fi space samples and some keys. Also bought a fricking laser.
