House Above The Sun are seeking an experienced bass player with a shared love of rootsy music. We released our 2017 debut album 'Five hours north' on spotify and bandcamp and have played many gigs over the past two years including Merge Festival and London Folk & Roots Festival. Lots of new songs written since then including a new 5 track EP, somewhat more acoustic driven and featuring lap steel and hammond.
Current line-up is 4 members (early-late 30s): male and female vocals, guitar, drums lap steel/slide guitar and percussion. We currently rehearse 3-4 times per month in Earlsfield (few stops from waterloo) so would plan to continue this until we're gig ready and then move on to regular gigging in the autumn.
Influences are broad but mostly stem from 60s/70s American folk, blues and country singer-songwriters, classic guitar rock and contemporary Alt-country. Some examples are Stones, Dylan, Wilco, Gram Parsons, Townes Van Zandt, Lucinda Williams, REM, Smiths, Gillian Welch, Beatles, Kinks, Doors, Uncle Tupelo, Sharon Van Etten, Bright Eyes, Kurt Vile, Big Star, Son Volt, Springsteen, Hank Williams, Fleetwood Mac, The Band, Tom Waits, Gordon Lightfoot, Emmylou Harris, War on Drugs, Nirvana.
Main priorities are someone with a great sense of groove who has an appreciation of rootsy music, and can commit to rehearsing or gigging around once a week. Preferably someone of similar age too, so between late 20s and late 30s.
If interested please get in touch soon and we'll send you more info. Please send some info about your live and/or recording experience, main influences, an a link to your playing (even if its just a simple phone recording). Ideally email direct to houseabovethesun@gmail.com
Thanks!
