Hey,
I'm Rory and I'm a 24 year old bass player living in Hackney from 1st August.
I'm looking for like-minded, serious musicians to start a new project with.
I'm really keen to get something fresh going and to start playing shows/touring again!
I've been in bands since aged 13, everything from metal, to hardcore/punk to alt/indie but I'd say my home is within alternative/experimental/post music.
My last band Violetic ended in September last year which I'd describe as dark melodic/shoegaze/post-punk and just before I moved to London four years ago, I was in Near Light which was an instrumental post-rock band.
In terms of my playing style, I'd say I'm mainly into playing loud, heavy (or 'thick'), noisey. darker, reverb-heavy driven music. Generally my playing involves loads of effects: chorus, reverbs, delays, fuzz/distortions and I rarely use a clean bass tone.
You'll get a better idea of how I play/sonically from the links below.
I've never really been a sole songwriter of any project before and I always work better as a band, sharing/bouncing ideas. I prefer jamming and creating an atmosphere/vibe collectively. On my own, I usually come up with riffs/sections/ideas but I've never really been one to write a whole song from start to finish by myself (or at least something I'm fully happy with).
As a reference point, I really love the sound of A Place To Bury Strangers, Preoccupations, Bossk, Drab Majesty, Oathbreaker, Cocteau Twins, Man Without Country.
For a band setup, I tend to prefer working as a 3-piece so I'm really looking for a guitarist/vocalist and drummer, although a 4-piece with a guitarist, drummer and vocalist would also work.
I really like the idea of a drummer having a sample pad too to trigger synths/drones/samples.
I'm not 100% sure yet but the ex-Violetic drummer may be interested but I need to check how she is for commitment at the mo.
I'm looking for people around the same age that are into the similar music and want to work towards creating something fresh and organic. Approachable/nice to hang out with, easy to work with, have own equipment/pedals etc, not a tory but most importantly being committed, have a strong work ethic and strong sense of a DIY approach of wanting to create, release and tour our music.
