Thanks to all those that have applied so far - the search continues. If you want to be in a very busy unique project where you get to play all the time and earn then please read below.
Hello,
I’m looking for a bass player for a very busy project. I run two bands, one local cover band ( with a difference - see below ), and one touring original band. All paid work.
It’s an absolute minimum of 2 gigs a week on a quiet week.
The cover band is 120+ gigs a year local South Wales.
The original band is signed to a record label, has three albums out and tours on short runs across the UK through the year - festivals, music venues, small clubs etc. We will be playing Euro shows in 2023.
The covers band keeps the money coming in locally and then the tours - once the Covid impact has lessened will give the better paid work. Even with Covid if it stays as it is with no new bookings ( unlikely ) we would have played 140 gigs in 2022.
Both outfits are established.
Original band - Music is blues/rock fusion, can get rocky, jazzy, funky. It can be very improvisational and we jam out a lot whilst maintaining song craft too.
Cover band - we are not the usual type of 'note for note' band - we mostly play rock music form the late 60s through early 70s - think 'Woodstock' era. With the occasional more 'friendly' tune if needed to suit a certain crowd. We are known for our improvisation and for doing songs no other bands do. It's a cool set if you like that era of music, and can be multi genre too - we even do a bit of reggae!
Both bands are currently 3-piece power trio type. It would be amazing if you could sing backing vocals too.
We have a splitter van and travel together to minimise fuel costs etc. We have great PA equipment, even bass gear if you need it.
On the road with the original band you will have your own room, money for food and a wage too.
You will need a high level of ability to both improvise but also groove and play in the pocket. The music gives you great freedom of expression as well as some sit back and groove type stuff.
Most importantly is the level of commitment and availability- this is a great opportunity for someone who loves to play their instrument and wants to be very busy and progress within the project.
If you have a job which is not flexible enough to allow you to have plenty of time off then this isn't for you. Also if you have a family life that would be compromised by you being out playing all the time then this could cause you issues too.
This is a great opportunity for someone who just loves to play, lives to play and improvise, but also digs just to sit with the band and play in the pocket. Age/gender doesn't matter - its more your commitment and availability plus your playing that will count.
Perhaps you’re a young player starting out who wants to get on the road or maybe a seasoned pro who is looking for a new project. It’s a great opportunity - and if you love making music and live for your instrument then we’d love to hear from you.
Please note - there may be a possibility of you just joining the covers outfit and I use hire in players for the touring, as tour work is often during the week. Though even the weekend work with the cover band is every week, and often 3 times a week, sometimes more. Myself and the drummer are full time, so we need to maximise on any playing opportunity. I would prefer one player to do it all though - then the band really gels and we can grow as a unit from small pub stages to bigger festival type stages.
Get in touch for more information, cheers.
