Hiya! I'm Jacob (25, they/them), and I'm in/am a noodly, noisy, indie at pace with fiddly riffs band called Mumbles. I've just moved to Manchester for a postgrad and I'd love some new bandmates! I sing and mostly play guitar, though I can also play bass, keys etc (and would love to learn drums). I'm looking for a bassist and a drummer mainly, though another guitarist or keys player would be amazing too - the more the merrier! And if you can play a few different things that's even better! We can all switch instruments and play each other's songs
It's all very fast, major key, open-tuned guitar carnage - like Deerhoof fronted by James Acaster, Jeff Buckley joining Perfect Pussy, or an insufferable Harry Pussy x Death Cab For Cutie supergroup. Earnest, ridiculous, vulnerable and hopefully deeply silly, shows often involve party poppers, lying on the floor, and trips into the crowd/behind the bar. Some tracks are less than a minute, some are more than 15. Sometimes it's very awkward proggy noodling, sometimes it's a big indie chorus, sometimes it's total improvised chaos. Sometimes it's very loud, sometimes it's very quiet. It's always loose, a bit out of time, a bit out of tune, and probably around 170-220bpm. Lots of songs about illness, isolation, plants, the end of the world, throwing up playing Mario Party, that sort of thing. Live it's historically been a power trio disintegrating, on record there's a bit more texture - a lot of reed organs, some backing vocals, strings, field recordings, mellotrons, warped synths and freeze pedal effects.
Mumbles has a label and I'm just finishing mixing a record (and have tracked another, and written two more after that...), there's a short tour booked for December and hopefully we'll do loads more next year, so ideally looking for people who can commit! I'd love Mumbles to be a proper band rather than just a solo project too, so if you have songs that fit that'd be wonderful, and of course I'm very happy for you to write your own parts!
Here's a live album we did as the old band, showing the most chaotic side of the project:

And here's a very-secret unfinished version of a track on the record:

Some other things I like/have tried to rip off include:
Deerhoof, Los Campesinos! Xiu Xiu, Porridge Radio, Young Jesus, British Sea Power, Strange Ranger, Squid, Bellows, Florist, Kiran Leonard, Irma Vep, James Acaster, Garden Centre, Jemma Freeman and The Cosmic Something, Tape Runs Out, Paear, Spirit of the Beehive, Floral Print, Adult Mom, Lightning Bolt, Girlpool, Gasetena, Girl Band, Spirits Having Fun, Sonny Sharrock, Captain Beefheart, Miles Davis, Deerhunter, Personal Best, Claire Rousay, Beirut, Blood Sport, Can, Beak>, Cult Party, Loma, Deakin, Deerhoof again... Loads of stuff! I'm all about the sprawl, and trying to squeeze as many different things as possible into the same project.
Sorry for the rambling, message me on here or email me at mumblesmuzak@gmail.com
Cheers!!
Jacob
