Okay so I’ll start by saying that I’m not looking at putting together a marching band and you don’t need any marching experience! I’m looking for a few drummers (maybe 3/4) around Manchester who already play drums to a good level that fancy getting together to work on rudiments, sticking patterns and drumline-style playing just on our snares.
The idea is pretty simple to start with, we could meet up maybe fortnightly, learn some rudiment-based music and see what happens.
I’m not a drumline teacher and I’m not looking to pretend I am ????, so the idea is that we learn together and decide what we would like to do as a group to improve our rudiments and hopefully we could find someone with marching/drum corps experience who could teach us some proper drumline stuff along the way, again not looking to march in the traditional sense but we could make it performative?
My background so you know, I play in a punk kinda band, I’m not bad at rudiments but not an expert, aiming to get better and get really good. If you want to do this with me, it would be helpful if you are a decent drummer, be able to keep time, and ideally be interested in getting seriously good at rudiments.
Longer term, it could become something more, proper snare ensemble, original music, videos, performances, collaborations… who knows. I’m not really interested in recreating a traditional marching band; I think there’s potential to do something a bit different and cool with it.
For now though, the goal is simply:
Get some good drummers together.
Bring our snares.
Learn some ridiculous rudiments.
See where it goes.
If that sounds like your kind of thing, drop me a message and lemme know what your background is.
