Looking to put together an 80s band based around pop/synth records of the time. Playing songs that are not normally played by cover bands.
Some of the songs could include;
Flock of Seagulls – I Ran
The Stranglers – Skin Deep
Matthew Wilder – Break my Stride
B.A.D - E=mc˛
Hey Little Girl – Icehouse
I love electro music from the 80s, but it’s hard to do well. Several synth players would be needed, and it would be hard to get that “live” sound. So staying away from Human League (“Lebanon” would be good), Soft Cell, Depeche Mode, Etc.
Getting the sound right is important, a lot of bands do lazy versions. Would like to get the songs to sound close to the originals, and recreate that 80s feel.
I play keyboards, and have just got a 2 Roland keyboard set up complete and in the process of learning some songs. I have played bass in the past and think I can get away with playing keys in a band now!
Looking for;
Singer/Singers
Would definitely need a male singer but many other songs could be bought in with a female singer too
Guitar and Bass
Effects will be needed for both instruments to recreate the songs. Ability to play bass synth or extra keys on certain songs could be an option
Drummer
Electronic kit or a mixture of traditional and electronic kit, again to get the sounds right
I’m in my late 40s and remember the songs from my childhood. Looking to gig around twice a month, maybe a little more in the summer. As things are at the moment, this is the perfect time to get things going. Would be good to gig around April time (if possible). There’s 2 very good studios her in Lowestoft, but rehearsals to be where it suits the majority of the band.
There’s loads of 80s gems out there waiting to be bought back to life.
