At the moment I'm the only guitarist in my band. I'm looking for my partner in crime.
We are a female fronted metal band. No, get visions of Nightwish and Arch Enemy out of your head. Instead, get into the vibe of Insomnium, a bit of Machine Head, add a little Dissection into that mix, heavy, pounding, melodic and playing harmonies.
We have tried out a couple of guitarists but they have not really ticked the boxes. I guess as the other guitarist, you have to get on with me haha. OK that sounds conceited, but we are all nicer than I am making out I assure you. We do make a point of hanging out as much as possible where we can. At the end of the day, we want to get on, not try for some bullsh*t one-upmanship dick measuring competition. I don't do that, that's all for the 17 year olds IMO.
So what I'm looking for in a second guitarist - aside from having the gear and transport to do the business - is someone I can harmonize with, someone who doesn't always demand the limelight, happy to share it, recognises the vocalist does the job and is happy to leave the egos and bullsh*t outside. I admit as we have a lot of existing material you may have to do as your told a little to start with. There is that part to it. We are just about to write our second EP which I'd welcome you to be a part of.
I guess I should admit I'm also the main songwriter at the time being. That doesn't mean your tracks are not welcome by any means. It's just how it is as of right now.
I guess I could do this with doing negatives. I don't do the djent bollocks and I don't like a fair selection of modern metal with al the screaming in the verse and choirboy bullsh*t in the chorus. Nothing winds me up more and sounds like a commercialised product of "Let's advertise Pepsi" crap. Please don't talk to me about Animals as Leaders or Tesseract as you will make me want to vomit. If that's the band you're looking for, then this isn't right for you.
But to name-drop bands, I'm very diverse and my writing reflects that. I would call my main writing influences as Insomnium, Dissection, (old) In Flames, a little dollop of early 90s (Skid Row, Pantera). I play a 7 string in Bb but please don't read djent. Djent makes me want to hurt myself.
I don't know if I've put across what I'm looking for. I don't expect you to be an amazing soloist. If you're not but can handle the odd harmonies but happy to do mostly rhythm then that's fine, I'll spend the time with you to get it tight and if you want to progress your playing, I'll spend the time with you as well. If you can play solos and shred like Malmstein, I'm happy to be upstaged haha. I'm not the type to throw a jealousy fit if you can play better than me, so long as you remember the track is the important bit. If you are a positive person whose primary interest is the music and you like to hang out for the odd drink every now and then, then you may well be the fit.
I know it sounds terrible, it may take a specific shopping list to be the second guitarist here, and this all may sound off putting, I'm just being direct and trying to put across what sort of person could really be of benefit to us. I'm protective of my band and love everyone in it. A lot has to fit, but if you want a good opportunity for yourself and have the desire to spend time not only playing in this band as a unit and also happy to do the crap work with us in the promotional aspects, then hit me up.
Hopefully that all sounds how I intended.
