I've had a few now, for live use dedicated stop switches are a must for me- double taps and hold to clear are just a bit much to do without the odd error mid song, the boss pedals are great but you need to add a footswitch to get the stop and clear functions but at least you can. The tc electronic pedals are good on some levels but I've had glitches- particularly with the X4 so once bitten and all that, sad but I could never trust any of their kit live again. EHX are good but you can't access most of the features with your feet, you'll spend a lot of time on your knees messing with mode buttons etc- not for me on a gig. Be wary of drum and bass features cos unless you're going through a decent PA ( as opposed to a guitar amp) they sound s**t- so that's the digitech trios out the window really. Also digital amps just don't seem to like loopers- everything gets a bit muddy and theres no sense of separation. If you really want to get flexibility out of it - like being able to layer loops of different lengths which is really handy for dropping in fills altering verse/chorus parts without having to play through a whole cycle before adding layers - the only options are the the big Boss unit or the Pigtronix infinity. Use wise they're pretty simple it's just a matter of practice to get your timing right, if your a split second out the error is compounded and becomes increasing noticeable with each cycle- the tc pedals sometimes cause this issue all by themselves- only tip really is don't try and hit record and start playing simultaneously, play the riff, progression or whatever through a couple of times then tap in and out when you're locked in with it.
