Versatile rock musician wanted to add rhythm, harmony and leads to psychedelic space-rock band playing originals and covers in the Bristol area. Any instrument considered sax, violin, trumpet, whatever and multi-instrumentalists are especially welcome. We have a separate ad with more information on what wed need from a guitarist.
We currently have bass, drums, a synth player who adds spacey effects and a guitarist/keyboardist who swaps between the instruments playing rhythm and lead as needed. Wed like to add an additional musician to provide variety and also interesting interplay with the other lead instrumentalist. The idea is that one can play lead melodic lines whilst the other plays chords or supporting melodies, swapping between the two, or they can play twin lead. We therefore need someone who is quite versatile and has good listening skills.
We play in quite a wide dynamic range so someone who is comfortable with heavy, powerful hard-rock but who can also play something more restrained in the quieter passages would be ideal
Must have:
Own giggable kit!
An interest in and understanding of psychedelic, space and progressive rock particularly of the late 1960s and early 70s
Willingness to contribute as part of the band and not necessarily have solos in every song
Awareness of what is appropriate volume to be heard but also maintain the balance of the band
Some gigging experience
At least a basic understanding of chords and scales
Willingness to rehearse regularly (probably every other week) in the Bristol area even on horrible winter nights!
Would be nice to have:
Own transport
Some vocal ability
Ability in another instrument
Knowledge of music theory
Interest in writing original music and lyrics
You can probably tell that were not putting together a typical rock band and we need somebody taking a role a bit more like Edgar Winter, Steve Hackett in Genesis, Geoffrey Richardson in Caravan, Simon House or Nik Turner in Hawkwind, Didier Malherbe or Tim Blake in Gong, David Jackson in Van Der Graaf Generator, Ian McDonald in King Crimson or even Ian Anderson in Jethro Tull! Incidentally all those bands are influences (particularly in their earlier years) but we intend to find our own sound and our own direction. Were relatively mature but we have no problem with any age, gender or anything else!
We have a gig booked in March and will do it as a four piece if necessary, but it would be good to complete the band first. Get in touch if you're interested.
