Hello,
My name is Tom Donnelly and I'm a songwriter/composer. I'm currently in the process of forming a new and exciting band based in Glasgow. So far we have drums, bass and myself on rhythm guitar and vocals. Ideally we want to be a four-piece group and so we need a competent and committed fourth member to play lead guitar (and a bit of keyboard and backing vocals would be ideal).
To put things in to context, I studied composition at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland for four years. In my last band I played lead guitar (10+ years experience) but now I feel is the right time to switch to the frontman role because it just makes sense when I'm writing both music and lyrics. Lyrics are very important to me and with this band I intend to write about modern day affairs such as the government, the monarchy and how I can't stand them, class divide in the UK and about various other topics. But I want to be a distinctly British sounding band like The Smiths, The Jam, The Beatles, Arctic Monkeys. Songs that have a distinct cheeky and sarcastic attitude about them like so many of the best British bands do. I also have experience arranging for other instruments such as piano, strings and other instruments and would love to be ambitious in the studio and get this kind of stuff into the music.
The drummer played in my last band and is a solid drummer and an all round sound guy, and the bassist is very competent, well versed in a variety of playing styles.
What are we looking for from you?
Ideally you need to be as good or even better a guitarist than me because I'm giving up my position on lead guitar to play rhythm and sing. That's the bottom line. So, if you're relatively new to playing guitar or you only know one or two chords and scales there's no point in getting in touch, we're looking for a solid guitarist who can play in a variety of styles confidently. You should be able to pick stuff up quickly by ear, know a variety of scales/modes, all the important chords (triads, power chords, open chords, various chord voicings around the neck, extended chords, diminished, augmented etc), be able to improvise/solo in a tasteful way, have a solid sense of rhythm, and Ideally you'll be able to contribute a lot of musical ideas to the table also.
Gigs have been banned for the best part of two years now. The three of us are hoping to break into the post-covid music scene, which we believe is on the horizon at this point and it should be pretty exciting times. We're serious about this band so you also need to be prepared to put the work/effort in and we need commitment. Not interested in any posers or time wasters (there's a lot of em on this website). We hope to play our first gig at the beginning of 2022 and soon after record a first single in a studio and release that with a professional looking music video.
Also (not that it's the most important thing) I'm 24 years old, the drummer is 23 and the bassist is 27, so we'd probably prefer someone around that age range.
If this sounds like the kind of band you'd be interested in joining and you genuinely feel like you can meet these requirements then we'd love to hear from you!
