On the lookout for musicians with an experimental bent to collaborate on a project that I kickstarted during lockdown 1.0. I’m principally a writer/vocalist/guitarist, with an album’s-worth of tracks and book’s-worth of lyrics laid down, but am pretty sure that in a live context they’d be much better served outside a solo format. As well as being keen to see how the existing songs crack, strain and mutate in response to other inputs, I’d really like to develop some fresh material with others – whether that be one person or a collective.
While your musical thinking doesn’t have to be deep-cooked in England’s esoteric underground, Coil and Current 93 are important signposts for me for loadsa reasons. But in the spirit of pushing against reductive self-definition, I’d be down for exploring all sorts: extended psyche-noise freakouts, militant coldwave rhythms, kosmische drones, caustic analogue electronics, the acid folk meets baroque pop of some Ghost Box releases – just hoping to encounter some proper inquisitive types with all channels on, all bandwidths open (and preferably some tech knowledge that far surpasses my own.)
A bit more background: I’m one-fifth of the band Spirits in the Pillar, with an EP due on Manc-based indie label AnalogueTrash at the start of next year. Due to the fact we’re scattered in different parts of the country, and a couple of bandmates’ other commitments, my work with them will only go on sporadically, hence me initiating this new thing alongside it. I live in central Notts, so it would be ideal if you were Midlands-based for fairly regular hangs and jams. Holler if any of this piques your curiosity, and I can point you to some of the tracks in their current form. Cheers!
