SubTone
(West London)
Sunday 22 May 2022, 1:43pm
About us:
We are an eight-piece covers band (including sound engineer) that specialises in performing classic, traditional Ska, Rocksteady, and Reggae as well as 2-Tone numbers from artists like Toots & The Maytals, Desmond Dekker, Dave & Ansell Collins, Bad Manners, and The Specials (original songs are something we are also looking at).
We love the music we play and the energy it brings us during our lively performances, especially when we see crowded venues all skankin’ the night away – the feedback we have received so far has been amazing. We have been very successful so far and have a following of almost 5,000 on Facebook.
We play Friday, Saturday, and Sunday gigs, although we try to keep the Friday gigs local (London ‘ish’) and Sunday gigs aren’t that often.
Even though we are predominantly London-based (rehearsals in West London), we travel all around the country, playing festivals, scooter rallies, pubs, and clubs, and are looking into the possibility of a European tour at some point.
The band already has a reasonable amount of bookings for 2022 at pubs, clubs, rallies, and festivals, with interest and inquiries coming in almost daily. Our current annual gig average is 35 – which we aim to continue.
We have been together for about 6 years and the band has a very strong ‘family’ feel about it. We are not a ‘business opportunity’, and money is neither a motivation nor sole income for any of the band members.
We rehearse weekly and are keen to add further to our current repertoire of approx. 60 songs.
About you:
Are you an experienced Ska/Reggae keyboard player who can emulate the sounds and styles heard in classic trojan ska tracks, as well as being able to bring a more edgy sound for the 2-Tone and (possible) original songs?
Are you willing and able to learn the songs quickly and accurately (as possible), so that the keyboard sounds recognisably similar to the original versions?
Are you willing and able to solo (improvised or otherwise) to add further variety to our performances?
We are looking for a team player who, apart from playing wicked keys, will also be:
• willing to help transport and set up/dismantle band gear before and after gigs
• happy to be actively involved in promoting the band (through social media, meets, etc.)
• ready to attend weekly, evening rehearsals, to help extend the variety in our gig playlists
We are really looking for someone who will be dedicated to the band, who fits in well with our ‘family’, is happy to travel, and really wants to be involved in all the exciting things coming our way.
We’re all looking forward to meeting you! 😊
