We're Jiggery Folkery, and we're after a lively and versatile singer, male or female, who can play (or can at least bash out a few chords on) acoustic guitar. A bonus would be if you can also play harmonica, whistle, fiddle, banjo, triangle, etc;
We're a well-established and popular covers band who like to do up-tempo songs, anything that we can get the crowd to dance to, and including a few of the Irish/folky numbers. Some of our current toons are:
Waterboys: Fisherman's Blues
Johnny Cash: Folsom Prison, Ring of Fire
Saw Doctors: Useta Love Her
Steve Earle: Galway Girl
Jack Savoretti: Knock Knock
Toots & the Maytalls: Monkey Man
Trad: Raggle Taggle Gypsy
Avicii: Wake Me Up
George Ezra: Blame It On Me
Trad: I'll Tell Me Ma
Van Morrison: Brown Eyed Girl
Sterephonics: Dakota
We're normally a four-piece, but of course we're currently one person down. We do regular paid gigs for pubs, food fairs and beer festivals, outdoor events and private parties. All three of us can sing fairly well, and between us we play bass, drums, guitars and mandolin. We like to use acoustic instruments to get a certain sound, and you would be playing rhythm (and some lead if you can) on an acoustic.
We try and get the crowd on their feet. We like a laugh and a pint when we play, and at our age we don't take ourselves too seriously. We have a great rehearsal space in Belper, where we try and get together every couple of weeks. We like to keep the set list quite fluid, and enjoy adding songs and trying out new arrangements. It would be great if you had some favourite songs that you'd like to add in.
You can find Jiggery Folkery on Facebook and at www.jiggeryfolkery.com.
You don't need to be a virtuoso musician: the most important thing is a decent voice, and the rest we can work on. So don't be shy! Just get in touch and let's arrange to get together for a play/try-out . What's the worse that could happen?
Cheers.
