I used to be in a band when I was a teenager and I carried on down that path doing open mics until I was about 20, then the dream kinda went on hold and became more of a spare time hobby whilst I was getting my degree, first job etc
But as we all know, once you catch the music bug, it's for life, and now that I've got a job in a completely unrelated field, let's just say I feel more motivated than ever If a double-decker bus crashes into me lol, I want to at least have some music recorded, so people can remember me through the music and not my great punctuality record or some crap like that, which is what people focus on these 'real life' jobs
I'm really into singer-songwriter and acoustic stuff, pop (the good stuff though), jazz classic tunes, bit of blues, and generally into music that has some sort of meaning lol, (and if you ever turn on the radio to listen to what's out there, then you know just what I mean)
I'm a singer, trained (although not classically, so I can't read music, sorry), and I can play some guitar, but let's just say my guitar-playing skills are kinda rusty, so I'd rather focus on the singing lol, because at least I'm pretty f***king good at that
I want to find some people I could work with on this little project, with a view of getting some covers on youtube, but I really want to make these sound our own... I don't really care how old the song is, a tune is a tune. I'm an old soul when it comes to music, and I really don't care if my music taste is outdated lol, I'll carry on glorifying 20th century music
Obviously I'd like to record some originals as well, get an instagram account up and running, and I can handle the promo work and just overall selling this project on social media. Got a friend who can help us get some gigs sorted, but of course I'd be looking at doing gigs once we've got something established
that we can then promote... If you can sell the music, well that's even more exciting, isn't it? Honestly, really not looking for 'fame' because I don't think I could ever handle that pressure and I don't think good music is necessarily about that (I mean have you heard Damien Rice??), but being able to sell your music is a good sign you're doing a good job and I want that
Now I've got a media degree, so sorting out some professional-looking videos shouldn't be an issue once it comes to it. The main focus at first woulddefinitely be practising, connecting as a band and adding the personal touch before we'd even get to that
Oh yeah, before I let you go, I should say I'm female, 25 & have a bit of a bluesy voice, and I hate all sopranos just cause I'm not one lol. Joking really, I'm a mezzo-soprano and I love a challenge, just don't ask me to sing AC/DC please and we'll be fine. Just so you get an idea, my influences vocally I guess would be Amy Winehouse, Patsy Cline, good old Whitney Houston, Etta James, Katie Melua... oh and Jeff Buckley, I freaking love Jeff Buckley.
I guess the most important thing is to think alike, we might be influenced by different artists and that's okay, but we all know that just cause you're influenced by Michael Jackson, it doesn't mean your music will sound like his... It's more about the sound you want to create, about being a team, being able to support each other, and, most importantly, about wanting to create something beautiful
So if you got this far reading this, give me a shout. Obviously, if you play guitar and you're good on acoustic, if you play piano and you can play some jazz (or at least some jazz chords),
that would be fabulous, so hit me up... Drums, bass... well I know it's harder to find musicians who play these, so we'll cross that bridge when it comes to it. Any other instruments/ideas are welcome
P.S.: This is the kind of sound I'm into:
