Looking to form a band, with the intention of making music that is actually good and that people will want to listen to.
I’m 20. I play guitar and sing. Not the greatest singer but it’s not like nails on a chalkboard. Looking to improve and get feedback on my voice. My guitar playing is pretty good and I think I can come up with some decent riffs.
I play in Drop C mainly. The stuff I’ve made up and plan to turn into songs is all in drop c or drop C sharp.
I think in terms of vocal ability I would be a passable lead singer and a pretty good backup vocalist. I’m still undecided whether I want to do lead vocals or not. I guess I’ll see if I get any singers interested in this post.
Bands I like are:
System of a Down (absolute favourite band of all time, love them to bits. I can play almost all their songs on guitar. Main inspiration songwriting wise)
Scars on Broadway (Offshoot of System of a Down. Excellent songs that stick in your head for days, if not weeks)
Nirvana (Not so keen on them as when I was younger, but I would really like to cover a few of their songs like Dive and Token Eastern Song... if anyone knows that one)
Pixies (Same as previous, not so keen anymore but I still listen regularly)
Death Grips (well worth checking out if you’ve never heard of them. Start with 80808. It’s experimental, heavy hip/hop. Very inspired by the way they handle their self-promotion in this digital age as well)
Red Hot Chilli Peppers (Standard. John Frusciante is a legend. Some of my riffs are inspired by his playing)
The Beatles (Only got into them the other year. What can you say really, it’s the Beatles. The day I can write songs as good... probably won’t ever come)
...plus more.
So yeah. Those bands are what I listen to regularly. Not the most exhaustive list because I tend to dive deep into bands instead of spreading my tastes thin.
Some things I DON’T like:
The whole indie genre - mainly inspired by having to sit through loads of sub-par and uninspired suppprt acts, I just don’t get the appeal of rock music without any grit or decent songwriting to make up for it. They all sound the same. Turn on your distortion pedal ffs.
That’s all I wanted to say really.
I guess I’ll end this by saying if you want more information about specific things then feel free to message me on here; I check every day. Some more things is that I would /like/ to play with people around my age, but I don’t mind if you’re older than me.
And I’m more than happy to come to you to meet up or for a practice, travel is not an issue for me.
And I may as well say that I’m ready to pour my heart and soul into music with the right people. If you think you’re compatibile then get in touch.
Thanks for reading
