We're putting together a live band to play in a piece of theatre. The show, which will be part of this year's Brighton Fringe, is set in a retro cabaret from the near future, and has strong political content. We will be bringing songs and basic chords, but we will be working with the band to create the sound we want. This will have a cabaret/Gypsy/Kurt Weill/Tom Waits type feel.
This will be a scratch-band with a rough-round-the-edges feel, so professional quality is not necessarily required.
PERCUSSIONIST: We're looking for someone to play a snare, plus miscellaneous percussive objects - this person does not need to be an experienced drummer! A good sense of rhythm and an interesting look for the ensemble are what we're after. We would love to hear from women as well as men for this part.
GUITAR/UKE: Someone who can play chord accompaniment on a semi-acoustic guitar or ukulele.
CLARINET
DOUBLE-BASS
FIDDLE
OTHER ACOUSTIC INSTRUMENT SUGGESTIONS/OFFERS WILL BE CONSIDERED (though sadly not keyboard due to lack of space - the stage is tiny)
(We already have an ACCORDION).
We're also casting for two acting roles:
THE DAUGHTER: Aged 18-30. The character has a strong, confident personality, alternately sweet and dark. An ability to sing is beneficial, but this is mainly an acting role and is central to the piece. The actor for this part will also double as a chorus-girl.
THE SHOWMAN: Any age (but will play a generation older than the daughter). The Showman does not have to be a man, but will bring an out-sized personality, and may be dressed in male gendered clothing. The Showman might be required to sing and dance. If they can also play an instrument – so much the better!
Auditions (for both actors and musicians) are Tuesday 21st February 5-7pm, with a callback on Saturday 25th February 12:30-2:30, in Hove.
Please apply by email specifying the part or instrument you're interested in.
