Pink Floyd
WANTED: Rick Wright (Keyboard and vocals)
Warning – Lots to read – so only read if truly a Floyd Fan and keen.
Also, before reading further – Please note; We are well aware there are hundreds of tributes. So how will this be any different?
We think we may have an answer, to that. Again – we only think so. So we welcome suggestions and chat but only from very interested parties.
Current tributes
From Brit and Aussie Floyd down to the smaller acts – they all seem to have a lot in common.
• Huge stage production from lasers to the circle backdrop screen
• 2 or 3 guitarists playing the David Gilmour role
• Aiming to mimic as exactly as possible the records or the tour (usually delicate sound of thunder or pulse)
• Different singers singing the Gilmour, Waters and Wright part’s
• More effort put into the production than the actual music, playing and vibe.
• Multiple musicians from backing singers, sax, percussion etc. (all needed, by the way, if trying to emulate the albums and / or pulse tours)
There’s nothing wrong with this. Some of them are incredible and put the shivers down our backs and some less so. But they’re all the same or trying to do the same thing.
Our opinion
Floyd from Early 70’s up to the Wall era, and even the Final cut, were always a core 4 piece that had energy, creativity, and magic. The albums are nothing short of stunning BUT their live performances were different to the records and equally, if not more so, magical. We want to replicate that by not copying. We don’t want to sound the same night in and night out trying to get a note for note perfection. That’s dull!
We're trying to get the core 4 piece that will play, jam and think like they did. Yes we may need additional players / singers but we're after the core 4 to be Pink Floyd. We have everyone except Rick Wright.
We want to try and bring that magic of rawness to a small venue or even a small as a pub but where the playing is raw, passionate and solid so that the audience standing barely 5 – 10 feet away are blown away. True Floyd Fans will get it, we're fairly certain of this.
We're not looking for someone who will do the Rick Wright's part or sing exactly like Rick – that’s impossible. We just want a keyboard player that can play and sing an approximation of his parts but with passion, dedication as if you wrote those songs yourself.
We urge all to do some YouTube research and listen to them live pre-Pulse and delicate sound of thunder tour, before £m’s was spent on production when they played like they loved it and each other
I’m talking Pompeii kind of vibe and later (no coincidence Gilmour is re-doing this and releasing it this September)
We want to get this quality at a basic level, first and then let it develop naturally.
If even slightly interested, fancy a beer to chat through – then drop us a message and we’ll chat.
