Hey there,
In a couple of years, I'll be 30. I'm not old, or at least I don't feel it. But time is definitely running out to be part of a touring band with actual fans before I die.
I've done this so many times before, it's shameful. Start a project, someone leaves, it withers and dies. I've been in a few bands in the past few years that have also gone this way. So, I guess I'm ready for one last shot at this sh*t before I give up and reside myself to playing lounge music for the rest of eternity.
A little about me - I'm a singer, guitarist, songwriter, riff master. Any and all of the above. The problem is, I need to write with someone. I can't do it on my own - I've tried but I'm just not that talented. I work better with other people.
I'm open to any sort of musicians that want to be a part of this, but the plan is to make a rock band that people love. The sort of band that isn't too clever, the sort of band where the audience sings the words back, the sort of band that matters to people - like so many bands have mattered to me.
Above all, the band should be focussed on live playing. This won't be a bedroom outfit. This will be about the show - about looking good, sounding good and making people move.
Ideally, you'll have some experience playing live and/or recording but if you don't - it's not a huge issue, we can work on that. Other things like age, gender, sexual orientation I couldn't care less about.
My influences are exceptionally varied, but the sort of thing I want to make will have some heavy elements geared towards great songs, great vocals and audience participation.
Think somewhere along the lines of:
- The Rattlesnakes
- QOTSA (pre camera lady kicking)
- Biffy (pre sh*te lyrics)
- Foos (not a big fan, but they're representative of this sound)
- Soundgarden
- Jane's Addiction
I'm open to anyone - bass, keys, brass - whatever. You don't have to be a wizard on your instrument. The only people I feel need to be truly exceptional are the drummer and the vocalist as this music will be underpinned by these instruments.
Anyway, I've waffled on too much. Surely there are other people out there with the same feeling of impending adulthood? If so, shout at me and we can swap tunes and stuff.
Cheers
