When all the lockdown is over, I would like to start a “House Band” project for people who are interested in playing good songs to (hopefully) appreciative audiences. purely for the love of the music.
I want a group of mature(ish), experienced musicians to rehearse regularly (perhaps every other week) and play out once every two months for free on a weeknight or the occasional Sunday afternoon on bank holidays. I intend to find a venue that will host the band perhaps once a month for the cost of bringing in a small PA (this could be your PA if you have one so you’d get the money) and a few rounds of drinks for the band. I have a couple of venues in mind that might be suitable.
I am a guitarist (with some limited vocals) so would be looking for a singer or two (maybe who also plays guitar), bass, keys, drums and any other instruments who might fancy it (brass etc). You can be male or female and somewhere in the 35-55 age bracket.
The intention is not about creating another open mic. I want this to be a group of musicians who meet and socialise regularly to keep their skills up and play tasteful material they enjoy. I don’t want this to be a hassle for anyone so if you’re local to Junction 26 that would be best. Whilst it would be nice to host the occasional "guest" musician, what I definitely don’t want is a free for all where the usual suspects just turn up expecting to terrible renditions of “Stuck in the Middle with you” or “All Right Now”!
Material can be anything from the 1950’s right up to the present day but I want to create a relaxed vibe with a good groove that people will enjoy hearing without ridiculous volume. I’d like to do all covers from Rock, Roots, Country, Folk, Blues, Jazz, Soul, Pop genres.
Please note: I want to do this for the love of the music and have no intention of working towards “paid” gigs because I want it to be purely for the love of the music. However, if it's done properly it will create a nice environment where people will come to listen and appreciate the music.
Obviously, due to the current situation it’s only possible to share ideas as we don’t know how long this will all last but please get in touch if you think it’s the kind of thing you’d like to do.
