Am a 23 year old guitarist of almost 9 years. I've recently started learning harmonica, banjo, piano and Irish whistle, hope to learn many more in future. Recently started watching Adam Neely and Rick Beato and trying to improve my theory. I have one Peavy Vypyr 15w modelling amp.
Looking for anyone who has similar taste, you can play pretty much anything. The more the merrier! We can do covers and have a go at writing originals.
I don't have any professional recording experience, however I have connections that can help with this if it ever came to it. I don't have much live performing experience besides a few open mic nights a while back, and not much experience playing music with others. Bare this in mind as it may take time to gel together.
Am influenced by a fair variety of artists, here's a list of albums that I love. If our tastes match up then I'd very much be interesting in jamming, and seeing where it goes from there.
A Sunny Day in Glasgow / Sea When Absent - Shoegazey, loose busy instrumentation, two female vocalists, male vocal harmonising, fantastic melodies to be found
Air France / On Trade Winds, No Way Down - one of my all time favourite short lived projects. Swedish duo producers of electronic music described as euphoric Balearic post-rave bliss.
Alexisonfire - Especially their eponymous debut, one of the heavier albums I absolutely adore, it's the melodies of Dallas Green's vocals, the busy guitar leads, and George Petit's rough vocals are some of my all time favourite of that kind.
The Avalanches / Since I Left You - This album is insane for its use of samples and stitching them together. I don't know where to begin with this technique but I'd love to try it out one day.
Baths / all LPs - This electronic solo project has some of the best produced sounds I've heard of its kind. From bright and optimistic, to dark and cosmically doomed, some of the best piano melodies and synth rhythms.
Beirut / Gulag Orkestar & Lon Gisland - tying together indie and world music, Eastern European gypsy folk sounds.
Blood Diamond / Cupid Deluxe - not much into BD's other work but this album is fantastic. Groovy 80s style production, amazing pop hooks, love the female backing and guest vocalists.
The Boss - Not much explaining here. I was raised on Bruce. One of my other all time favourite bands is The Gaslight Anthem as you can imagine...
Carbon Based Lifeforms / All LPs - Otherworldly cosmic and sometimes ambient sounds created through the classic Roland TB-303, again, very far from any experience creating this sort of music but would love to in future.
The Cure / Disintegration- As South Park put it, the greatest album ever.
David Bowie. In particular I really like Let's Dance, I love Nile Rogers and Stevie Ray Vaughn on this is great.
Destroyer / Kaputt - Dan Bejar's poetic ramblings, this thing is a masterpiece.
Enter Shikari / Take to the Skies & The Mindsweep - one of the only bands of their time I still listen to. Love their pop sensibilities, the harmonies are great, the electronic instrumentals... the heavy chugging, and really like Rou's vocals.
Faithless / Reverance & Sunday 8pm - Some of the all time classics for trance, but they produced a fairly varied amount of music that these two albums best capture for me.
Gang of Youths - Probably the newest of my favourite contemporary bands. The songwriting is just incredible and heart wrenching.
Grimes - Especially Visions. I just love everything about Grimes.
Jai Paul - The groove this guy has, check out Str8 Outta Mumbai, BTSTU, Jasmine. This guy changed everything 2011.
Jimi Hendrix - Needs no explaining
John Butler Trio / Sunrise Over Sea, Grand National & April Uprising - Roots rock, lots of alternative tuning stuff, 11 string guitar, lap slide stuff, the jams, one of my all time favourite artists.
John Martyn / Solid Air & One World - Amazing singer-songwriter, his use of effects on One World was a huge influence on the amazing Ben Howard.
John Wizards - From Cape Town, has some of the sickest face melting instrumentals.
King Crimson / Discipline - I love this lineup. Adrian Belew is a genius.
LCD Soundsystem / All of it - One of the best of all time.
Leonard Cohen - Love his debut, his writing is amazing, and his arrangements are great.
My Morning Jacket / Jim James has the voice of an angel
The New Pornographers / Twin Cinema - Dan Bejar AND Neko Case? Hell yes. Check out The Bleeding Heart Show in particular, its like Hey Jude but better.
Peter Gabriel / So - this guy knows his melodies, and what a voice.
Prince / 1999 and Purple Rain - these are two of the greatest records recorded.
Real Lies / Self titled - love the spoken word delivery of the lyrics, its like the soundtrack to a soft comedown.
Red House Painters / self titled - Mark Kozelek is incredible. The mood this album has is so sad and dreary but it's a masterpiece.
The Replacements / Let it Be, Tim, Pleased to Meet Me - The best band only 50% of the time. You probably know Goo Goo Dolls, well they originally started out as a Replacements cover band... Easily one of the most important bands of all time.
Sigur Ros / all of it - love love love it all
Smashing Pumpkins / Gish, Siamese Dream & Mellon Collie... - these albums are incredible.
Talking Heads / Remain in Light & Speaking in Tongues - just listen lol
Tame Impala / all - Kevin Parker is a genius.
Tool / Lateralus - Fear Inoculum was a bit of let down for me, Lateralus is king.
Van Halen / self titled & 1984, might be a little dated for today, but there's still so much to learn from these guys.
The War on Drugs / Lost in the Dream - the Dylanesque writing and vocals, the reverb filled long and laid back solos. Love this album.
Way Yes / Tog Pebbles - this is one quirky album, it's otherworldly, super trippy.
Yes / 90125 - Trevor Horns production on this thing is timeless.
Yumi Zouma / EP1&2 and Yoncalla - love the laid back indie pop approach, great melodies, female vocals with male backing vocals, simple but very effective pop hooks and instrumentals.
