I'm looking for an interesting singer to work with me on recording and maybe playing live some of my original songs and hopefully working together to write some new ones.
As a singer, you need to have your own style and not be just stuck in one genre. The music I'm trying to make is kind of alternative with bits of influence from people like Radiohead, Massive Attack, Bat for Lashes, Nick Drake, Doves, Foals. I'm thinking about electric guitar (nice reverb) with some sensual vocals to be backed up by interesting drum loops and programmed patterns - so there is both a sense of interesting harmony and a heavy rhythmic undertow.
Before you reply, please first listen to my soundcloud by searching for mystringtheory (it's the first result in Google or go to soundcloud.com/mystringtheory) and make sure you are properly interested in this kind of music. And also, you need to be able to send me a link to an example of your own singing, or be able to email me a file - it can be something recorded very simply on a phone if you have nothing else. Finally, you need to be enthusiastic and have a can-do attitude.
The idea is to create an interesting working partnership where we could work on some recordings, play some gigs and have some fun, it could be a co-writing thing in time (i.e. once we know how each other work), but if you only want to work on songs that you've written (or co-written), this is not for you. Making a band is a definite possibility (drums, bass, for example) once the vocals are ready to go.
Also I live in Cambridge not London, so there needs to be a bit of flexibility. I am happy to practise in London but also you would need to be able to come this way sometimes (45 mins by train) as well - I have a nice mini studio set up where we can work. Also I am 44 if that makes any difference.
Most importantly, if you're interested, you'll need to realise these things take time and regular commitment. That ideally would mean a regular practice once a week. And to coming to Cambridge perhaps every few weeks would be really useful too.
I'm friendly and hard-working, so it's going to be fun if you are enthusiastic too.
Here's an acoustic video of one of my songs too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xRBj6DW1Alg
