Well, my name isn't Johnny Cash... but I've been tempted to grab a deed poll.
Here's my story. When I was 18 I first did karaoke. I nailed it. I knew I was a good singer(!) but I fell in love with singing and it's been in my blood ever since. In my 20's I did karaoke as often as I could, and when I hit 30 I joined a rock group (think Traveling Wilburys, Free, Tom Petty rock) and we did really well for a few years. Unfortunately, due to work commitments I simply couldn't carry on, and it was a really difficult decision to part our ways.
10 years later, my wife's heard me sing in karaoke a thousand times, but never seen what I'm actually capable of, and, on the back of half a pack of Budweiser, I joined this site tonight thinking that I'd stick myself out there and see if anything comes up!
So, what can I sing? That's more important than what can I do. Well, my passion is country. Hey! Stop scrolling! That isn't always a bad thing!!!! I can nail Johnny Cash to the point that it scares me. I'm a deep singer, don't be expecting high pitched screaming vocals. I can mimic most voices from Johnny Cash to Elvis, but don't be expecting Meatloaf unless you want to see me suck a helium balloon first. Country isn't the music that I listen to, although it seems to be the music that I can do best. I'm a fan of country, rock, pop (up until about 2005), ska, and even have a massive 'thing' for comedy songs by Weird Al, Russ Abbot and a whole host of other people. In terms of adaptability, if it's in my vocal range I'll do it. I'm not the sort of person that's looking for a pure rock group thinking "I like rock". I like a lot, I'm just looking for a group I like too.
Next! Commitments! Having been there, I know what it's like trying to arrange gigs. Well, I'm in the very fortunate position of being partner (with my wife) in a business, which means that I can "usually" be available at a day's notice, but can always clear my schedule given a week.
