Hello, I'm a guitarist looking to get a band together. I'm 33, been in a couple of for-the-love-of-it bands that have barely gigged but have been great fun to play with and looking to get a new thing on the go. Been playing 12-13 years on and off, quite a lot of it off.
Would quite like to make some heavyish drony trance-out psych stuff, at the early Spacemen 3/Hawkwind Space Ritual end of the psych world rather than anything to shoegazey or dayglo poppy. Lots of heft and groove but more propulsive than crushingly doomy for the most part. Sometimes with words, sometimes not, but a singer who's cool with not doing that much actual singing would be smart, especially if handy with the maracas or a tambourine once in a while.
List of bands/albums/genres in the broad sort of region:
Spacemen 3 / first few Sonic Youth records / Hawkwind Space Ritual / Pink Fairies / Velvet Underground Sister Ray / Stooges Funhouse / Damo Suzuki Can / Neu! / Om-Sleep-High on Fire / first four Sabbath records / Zep 1 / sludgier bits of people like Baroness / Pigs x7 / Kyuss / early 70s Miles Davis / North African and Indian music / anything with a fat load of fuzz and drone that makes you zone out
Looking for:
Bassist, drummer/percussion, additional guitar, vocalist; anyone broadly into the above
Any technical ability - feel over flash all the way (but reasonable sense of time would be useful, though can be learned on the go to be fair)
Any age or gender etc
A willingness to get stuck in and a lack of fear of f***king up
A willingness to play the same riff/chord/note/beat for minutes at a time
Being easy going
Not expecting much in the way of direction (it's not 'my vision', it's some people having a jam)
Commitment to an evening a week in a rehearsal space
Ambitions:
Have a laugh
Enjoying being creative and making music as an end in itself
Get a few tunes that just feel really nice to smash through
Record a few bits in the jam room and stick them on Soundcloud or similar
Play a few gigs locally
Sell out every stadium in South America
I live towards Cheddar and work in Frome, thinking of finding rehearsal rooms in Bath, so looking for anyone who would be able to travel into Bath once weekly to give it a go.
Thanks for reading, hope to hear from you soon!
Cheers,
Jack
