The genre we are going for is sort of a post-punk/pop/new wave mixture, but played in our own style. Our fledgling setlist includes songs from the likes of Stranglers, Pixies, Elvis Costello, Martha and the Muffins, Teardrop Explodes/Julian Cope, Talking Heads, Joe Jackson, Vapors, The Cure... but we are flexible and have open minds and open ears when it comes to material. We know there is an audience for this material because it has always gone down well when incorporated into originals sets with a previous band.
We have just lost our rhythm and lead guitarists due to work and other band commitments, so the remaining line-up is drums, bass and vocals. We are not necessarily looking for direct replacements for a classic "lead and rhythm", set-up as this genre of music is not exactly known for its screaming solos! Anyone offering both guitar and keyboards would be particularly welcome. Taste and creativity are as important as technical ability, as we are looking to put our own stamp on the songs rather than play them as straight, exact facsimiles of the original recordings.
Our ages range from 25 to 50, but people of any age (and gender) are welcome to enquire! We are "decent" musicians rather than virtuosi and don't take ourselves too seriously. Being in a band should be fun! The plan would be to rehearse once a week until we have a slick set or 25 or so songs (we have around ten already) and gig on average twice a month. So if you are looking for a band that is a major source of income, we are probably not the ones for you - however, if you are already in another band (or more than one), be aware that we will be expecting a certain level of commitment.
It goes without saying that you should have your own quality (reliable!) gear and transport.
