Hey!
(psychedelic, prog rock, stoner and funk mainly). Just started a band with a drummer and guitarist who are serious about meeting once a week to rehearse and jam but looking for others too! The main idea at the moment is just to have regular structured practise to improve ourselves as musicians and write material. Gigging will come later.
I have a vision about what i want to achieve as a creative musician. I have trouble of limitations and don't particularly like the ideas of writing "pop bangers that people can dance to." In my experience people never normally dance when they hear new music any way so there is no point in writing exclusively in this way. On top of that Saying "We want to sound like...." can also be limiting however having a direction is really important.
This is why I have my vision for the sound. I'm basing my compositions around a desert rock theme initially and writing conceptual songs that kind of fit around that. Think native american rituals but with a 60's/70's british rock and blues feel. I'm really good at fingerstyle guitar and can write my own material in this format all the time. When I want to get heavy, my orange rockerverb 50 step in. It sounds nerdy but its really working for me creatively at the second.
I like progressive music because it gives me the freedom to play expressively and compose out of the box material. Me and the other guitarist have very different styles of play but so far we seem to be complementing each other really well. The groove is obviously a big deal too.
Influences include: Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Rush, Zeppelin, Cream, Tame Impala, Black Sabbath, Mastodon, Janis Joplin, Yes, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Soundgarden, Joni Mitchell, Fleet Foxes, Simon and Garfunkle, Queens of the Stone Age, Portishead, and so much more.
I hope this interests you and that it finds you well.
