Hi folks,
I'm a 22 year old composer, just out of University and starting my professional career. Ad-spots and soundtracks are my source of income, but I need some other, more fun and exciting projects to get to grips with at the same time.
I'll confess that I'm not the most proficient bass guitarist in the world (it's not my primary instrument), but hopefully what I lack in playing ability I make up for in compositional ability, general musical experience and vision (without sounding too corporate-speak).
I'm setting out with the intention to play some progressive rock, perhaps metal, but ultimately I'm not too fussed. I'm looking for players of any instrument to get together and play some exciting music. We could end up with any combination of instruments, any type of ensemble. I'm quite comfortable running all the way from jazz fusion through funk or classic rock to black or thrash metal and then off the edge with experimental or avant-garde music. As long as there's an interesting element to it, I'm happy.
For the moment, I'm not looking to get too serious with starting a band, as I am quite busy with important projects on at the moment. This is primarily an attempt to find and bring together interesting musicians in the area, having been gone for 4 years for my Bachelor's and Master's degrees and being unfamiliar with the scene.
Stopping myself from going crazy by being isolated in my studio would be an added benefit (don't get too excited, it's not much of a studio - yet).
However, if we really click then I have no objections to getting a band started - indeed, it is a goal of mine in the mid-term after my current projects. But for now, there's no pressure. Just interesting musicians getting together and making some interesting music.
I am also a viola player (and violinist, when necessary) which is my primary instrument. Whilst I'm quite interested in having people to play bass guitar with (as I'm already playing viola elsewhere), I'm totally flexible in that regard.
(In fact, as a side note, if you're a very proficient violinist or cellist, I'm looking to set up a quartet right now with a violinist friend. Primary repertoire will be the Debussy & Ravel Quartets as well as my own compositions. I'll warn you, my compositions make the Debussy & Ravel look easy)
As for practicalities, whilst I am limited on transport, I do have space that could be used for practice, depending on how big and loud we get. This and other practicalities can be discussed as and when they turn up.
