Currently on the lookout for a new bass player for an existing singer/songwriter led project/band embarking on a new EP release and gigs. Lots of gigs played last few years including Merge Festival and London Folk and Roots Festival and good reviews for our debut album from the likes of Americana UK and Clash Magazine. The band is called House Above The Sun and you can hear our first album 'Five hours north' on spotify and bandcamp (these days we mostly play tracks 1, 3, 4 and 8 from that record). Lots of new songs since then including a new EP being mixed now, somewhat more acoustic driven and featuring lap steel and hammond.
Current line-up is male and female vocals, guitar, drums and lap steel/dobro.
Currently rehearse 3-4 times per month in Earlsfield, sometimes in SE London too.
Influences are broad but mostly stem from 60s/70s American folk, blues and country singer-songwriters, classic guitar rock/pop and more contemporary Alt-country. Some examples are Bob Dylan, Rolling Stones, Gram Parsons, Townes Van Zandt, Lucinda Williams, The Smiths, REM, Wilco,The Beatles, The Kinks, The Doors, Uncle Tupelo, Big Star, Son Volt, Gillian Welch, Bright Eyes,Tom Petty, Byrds Hank Williams, Neil Young, Tom Waits, Nick Cave, Springsteen, Emmylou Harris, The Band, Kurt Vile, War on Drugs, Nirvana, Sharon Van Etten.
The ideal person for us:
-shared love for rootsy/americana influences
-reliable, organised, positive attitude
-experienced player with great timing, ability to learn songs by ear and feel out the groove of the song and what the song needs (including keeping things simple when needed). Ideally a finger style player.
-someone who genuinely likes the songs and has enough time and drive for music to do regular rehearsals (probably 3-4 per month initially) leading to regular gigs (hopefully including gigs outside London gigs in future)
-Ideally similar age (late 20s-late 30s)
-Harmony backing vocals desirable but not essential
If this sounds of interest to you please get in touch and we'll send you more info. Please give info about your live and/or recording experience, your biggest musical influences, age and location. Please provide at least one link to your playing (even if its just a simple phone recording of you playing).
Thanks
