RENEWING THIS ADVERT: We have been really unlucky with people wasting our time. We are heading back out onto the road as a 5 piece, if you're interested but unsure then please come and check us out. We want to get back to our optimal 6 piece sound, but PLEASE no more time wasters:
- If Plymouth is too far for you for a weekly rehearsal then we're not right for you.
- If you want to receive £80/£100 a gig then we're not right for you (there'll be 6 of us and our soundman).
- If learning 80's guitar solos is too much like hard work then we're not right for you.
However if you want to enjoy playing in a fantastic band with a great show and awesome crowd responses, if you want to be part of a great group of lads who are all positive, experienced and proficient, if you want to be part of a musical and visual experience that takes in pubs, clubs, festivals and private events across Devon & Cornwall and if you've got the chops then please do give me a shout!
Plymouth's premier Eighties covers band, Firebird, are back after an extended lockdown and looking for a lead guitarist to join and work with us.
Playing a mixture of 80's rock standards mixed with some more eclectic pop songs which have been rocked up, we need a lead guitarist with some ability to play some of the killer solos of the era (we try to get the songs sounding as close to the originals as possible for the rock songs). He will join the current line up of drums, bass, keys, guitar and vox and form one half of the guitar axis that creates the huge Firebird sound.
Backing vocals are advantageous but by no means essential, what is essential is your own gear, the ability to make rehearsals (usually Sunday evenings in Plymouth) and gigs (generally no more than 2/3 a month) and the ability to rock out with a band that has a great camaraderie and puts on a helluva show. With the songs we play it's important that you can nail the solos as per the record; we're not looking for improvisation here although we do play our own versions of some songs that provide the space for creativity on the solos. Also, we split the solos between two guitarists so there is negotiation around which ones to take and not.
Ages range from thirties to fifties, ideally you'll sit somewhere within that and have a genuine love for Eighties music. If all this sounds of interest then please do get in touch. We are always looking to add new songs and additional sets so we would encourage a new member to contribute song ideas from the off, bearing in mind that the focus is the audience experience so we try to play songs that the average punter will know in a pub.
We have pulled together a selection of songs for auditions, all in the same key as the record except where called out;
Crazy Train - Ozzy Osbourne
Jump - Van Halen
You Give Love A Bad Name - Bon Jovi
Don't Stop Believing - Journey (played a semitone down)
Hysteria - Def Leppard
Rebel Yell - Billy Idol
Wicked Game - Chris Isaak (but inspired by the HIM version)
Fire Woman - The Cult
Sweet Child O' Mine - Guns N Roses
Maniac - Michael Sembello (but inspired by the Firewind version)
Hungry Like The Wolf - Duran Duran (but inspired by the Amaru version)
Lick It Up - Kiss
Small Town Boy - Bronski Beat (but inspired by the Paradise Lost version)
Word Up! - Cameo (but inspired by the Gun version)
Ain't Nobody - Chaka Khan (our own version, down a semitone from the original)
The Final Countdown - Europe (played a semitone down)
Tainted Love - Soft Cell (our own version, played in the key of A)
Maniac - Michael Sembello (but inspired by the Firewind version)
It's important to understand that we are an eighties rock band, that's the era we play and the sound we go for. If you think you've got the stage presence, guitar sounds and ability to be part of a kick-ass show then get in touch. If you have any questions then just drop us a line, here's a link for consideration:
