Following our recent departures from the Sour Dogs, the bassist (me) and drummer have "borrowed" the rhythm guitarist and are looking to change direction and form a new band - playing covers, and mostly the ones that we have already performed together. We know there is an audience for this material because it has always gone down well when incorporated into originals sets.
Now what we really need is a singer/frontperson to deliver the material with conviction, energy and personality. Ability to work an audience and entertain them is vital. To be fair, you don't have to be a fantastic vocalist as enthusiasm, experience and stage presence are equally as important (if not more so). However, that is not to say that we are looking for a crap singer!
We would expect you to have (or acquire) a PA and know how to use it. If you have lights too, so much the better - but they can be purchased.
We are all in our mid to late forties, but singers of any age that fancy a go can apply! We are "decent" musicians rather than virtuosi and don't take ourselves too seriously. Being in a band should be fun! The plan would be to rehearse once a week until we have a slick set or 25 or so songs (we have around ten already) and gig on average twice a month. So if you are looking for a band that is a major source of income, we are probably not the ones for you.
The genre we are looking to do is sort of a post-punk/pop/new wave mixture, but played in our own style. Our fledgling setlist includes songs from the likes of Stranglers, Pixies, Elvis Costello, Martha and the Muffins, Teardrop Explodes/Julian Cope, Talking Heads, Joe Jackson, Vapors, The Cure... but we are flexible and have open minds and open ears when it comes to material.
We have had some interest (but would like more!) and are looking to audition in the first week of February (if the planets align correctly!). The three songs we will be using for audition are Hanging around and Echo Beach (both in the key of A) and Wicked Game (in B).
If you are interested (or know someone who is) drop me a PM on here or text me (Geoff) on 07795 434365.
