Hey I’m Matt I’ve been singing/gigging for several years in various bands/genres and I’m looking to start (or join) a funky soul blues band. I’m thinking musicianship, grooves, brass, keys, guitars and production combining to make uplifting powerful soulful tunes with classic pop overtones to get hearts pumping and bodies moving.
Honestly I don’t have a huge amount of experience with this type of genre but I doubt many do. It’s a DIY make your own adventure type of thing to my mind so no risk no reward, there should be no fear in trying something new to see what sticks. It’s going to be a full-on collab between the entire band and hopefully we’re relaxed and opened minded enough to pull it off!
My main example would be Tom McGuire & the Brassholes but there’s plenty of bangers here: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/37i9dQZF1E4msrB0QFnsHQ?si=92245b4499c9490d (Red Line by Izo Fitzroy is awesome). If you’ve heard Scary Pockets they do a similar vibe but I’m thinking originals rather than covers.
I’ve got a few EPs if you’re curious:
Flying Oceans (2022): https://open.spotify.com/artist/2wQEULFf1G7YoTBhDOXMLE?si=q8cfRw3_StaNuEapaccwMQ
The 602 (2020): https://open.spotify.com/artist/1yVcm7Dhgrca0qPhmuJ9dx?si=jjhT02JuThCyY1FlGFyMhg
I’m 41 btw so have family/work/life to weave around music. I love gigging, hopefully eventually aiming for 1 or 2 a month in decent venues (dare we dream of the occasional festival) but of course the music’s gotta come first… if you build it they will come!
Right, I’ll leave you to it. If it sounds like fun and you’d be interested in being part of this thing let me know what you have in mind and it’d be perfect if you could send the odd demo.
Cheers,
Matt
