Hi guys,
I just saw your ad in Join my band and I wanted to check it out with you.
I am a mature muso recently relocated to Ashford (TW15), which means that I have had to leave my band in Dorset behind
In that band, I was the lead singer and also played bass guitar. I also play guitar (not a great lead guitarist, but a very decent 2nd guitar) and a bit of keyboards.
As I will have shoulder surgery at the beginning of next year and will therefore be unable to play for a while, singing without playing an instrument is something that would suit me fine, but I must admit that I would like to be able to also play a bit of either guitar or keyboards (or both) where needed once my shoulder has recovered.
I am very eclectic and creative (I am still 18 in my head) and have loads of energy and passion: when I am on stage, I am tall, thin and handsome and the world is a beautiful place.
I very much like the bit where you say in the ad that “Your input will help shape where we go from here!”, as I have always thought that the repertoire of a covers band is better built around the capacities (range, type of voice, etc.) of the people singing in the band – I have always worked that way, even when I was not the lead singer in some of the bands I have played in.
One thing is to manage to sing a song; another is to make a great job of it…
I am one of those who think that if a song does not sound effing great (globally: both vocals and instruments), then you should drop it and start working on the next one – there are enough great songs out there.
To give you an idea of what I can and enjoy singing, here are a few ones I was doing with my band in Poole: several Beatles Norwegian wood (acoustic version), Back in the USSR, Sgt Pepper’s medley, Helter Skelter, etc. (I’m a fan), Black night, Smoke on the water and Highway star by Deep Purple, The pretender by Foo Fighters, Smells like teen spirit by Nirvana, Pinball wizard, See me feel me, Who are you, Won’t get fooled again by The Who, Paranoid by Black Sabbath, Ace of spades by Motorhead, Basket case by Green Day (a jazz/punk version I made up), Highway to hell by AC/DC, Rock & Roll hoochie coo by Johnny Winter, Sunshine of your love and White room by Cream, With a little help from my friends by Joe Cocker, American woman by Guess Who, All right now by Free, Purple haze and Fire by Hendrix, Sweet home Alabama by Lynard Skynard, Play that funky music by Wild Cherry, Every breath you take by Police, Hey hey we’re the Monkees by The Monkees, Born to be wild by Stepenwolf, Bad case of loving you by Robert Palmer and many more…
Does this mean I can only sing those songs and that I want to do them all? Absolutely not – it is just to give you an idea of songs I can confidently (and realistically) say that I do a great job of, but I am open to anything… provided I can make a good job of them them.
So there you go.
