I started drumming late in life. Something I always wanted to do but now at age 62, I have had my kit for just over a year. A decent set, A 10 year old Mapex M series in perfect condition with a growing collection of Istanbul Alchemy cymbals.
I have weekly lessons locally and have been taught to read percussion music score. Useful for learning new stuff. I have been having lesson for nigh on two years.
I had a recent try out with a local band at a nearby rehearsal studio, (Mushroom Studios in Rayleigh) but was in competition with a player of 15 years experience and they went for the more experienced player. But I had such a great time doing it. It was my first time live with other musicians. I just so enjoyed it, I know its what I want to do more of. If it leads to local gigs, so much the better.
I'm not a Bonham or Moon but can hold a steady beat. I have no delusions of grandeur however, and still have much to learn. I am very much an intermediate player. I would be really looking for like minded musicians. Perhaps older musicians who have recently started out or have returned to playing after a break. But age doesn't matter to me. Younger players who want to jam? Brilliant.
I have my own transport and having taken early retirement, can make day times as well as evenings. Including my weekly lessons, I probably practice 2-3 times a week too. I live about 15 minutes drive from either Mushroom studios in Rayleigh or AT Studios in Rettendon.
Music wise, Rock, Country rock, (Big fan of US band Blackberry Smoke right now) Blues Rock, Coldplay, London Grammar. Not into punk or metal.
