Looking to start or join a band - emphasis on writing original material, recording, playing shows, and in an ideal scenario getting to do some touring (long weekend -to- week-long tours). Not out to make money, more so to break even and enjoy creating.
Most of my prior bands have been garage-punk, rock'n'roll, budget rock etc. but I have a wide range of interests and influences, and am keen to take a new project in a slightly different direction.
Favorite record labels (past-or-present): Total Punk, Goner, Feel It, Crypt, Super*Teem, Rip Off , In the Red, Norton, Slovenly, Damaged Goods, Titan, Bomp!, Dig!, Dirtnap, HoZac, Sarah, Fortune, Stax.
Some directions I'm interested in:
1) Power-pop band: Influenced by the Nerves, 20/20, Exploding Hearts, Powerpearls complilations, Stiff Records, maybe some Junkshop glam / Reminder records repress stuff.
2) Synth-forward / weird: I guess "egg punk" without all the baggage lol. Influenced by the Spits, Devo, Suburban Lawns, Suicide, Screamers, Okmoniks, 39 Clocks
3) Modern garage-punk: Douchemaster-records-core, Carbonas, Marked Men, Killed By Death influenced, MOTO, Curlys, Reatards, Sick Thoughts
4) More trad/mod garage-punk: Billy Childish, Gories, Oblivians, Mummies, Back from the Grave, Supercharger. I think this is closest to where my existing work lies.
5) More pop / twee: Dolly Mixture, Kleenex / LiLiPUT, Sea Urchins, Beat Happening, Young Marble Giants, JAMC, Strum & Thrum (Captured Tracks comp)
However contrary to all this, genre labels are sometimes useful but mostly restrictive and equally happy to throw all our influences in a blender and see what sticks.
Nothing against these genres but -not- personally looking to do or incorporate: emo, pop-punk, metal, prog.
Me: 32 year old guy from the US. Besides music, interested in cycling, film photography, reading, movies. Probably equally skilled on guitar (rhythm or lead) or bass, passable on drums. Can sing decent enough, or harmonize, have fronted bands but would be stoked to step out of front and center haha. Can write material and enjoys to do so, however not the fastest writer. Just moved here in January so I have minimal gear and don't have a practice space. Ideally the music group will be based in Cambridge but open to travel for practice as far as London or if possible by public transit.
You: Any age/race/gender. Taste & enthusiasm more much important than instrumental prowess. Ideally you have interest in songwriting too. Could be your first band or your 20th. You must be nice and chill and a good person.
