Hi there,
If you're looking to play what I can only describe as Progressive indie-rock tunes, then you might be interested in the 5-piece I am in the midst of setting up.
The style is hard to describe, but it takes the wailing vocal lines of Jeff Buckley, with the drab and depressing lyrics of Morrissey (hopefully that's your thing). In terms of guitar, some tracks are inspired from the capo'd open lead guitar of Johnny Marr, others have that super dry and gritty guitar tone you'd expect from Frusciante. However, the experimental element comes from the structure and chord progression directions that the songs have ended up going in (diminished/augmented/b9 chords, which regular modal interchange etc.) A good band to listen to would be Everything Everything for a general idea. There's a good balance of fast and slow tunes too, 1 acoustic song for good measure.
The album is 12 songs total, of which are all finished structurally and lyrically. This means that all the leg-work is basically done. (I don't know about you, but I have been in too many originals bands that fizzle out during the creative process). I have recorded demos of the first four tracks which I can send to you via email (you will have to forgive my lack of production skills, it isn't my forte). Note that I would be looking to record the whole album with real performers in a professional environment, and gig around the Northern circuit.
So, I am looking for a drummer and keys player and then we will have the full group. Members should be Manchester-based and have their own transport. I'm not too concerned about age, although somewhere similar to myself (27) would be ideal. The most important thing to me is a good sense of humour and a real interest in this project.
I want to stress that there is no point in being a part of this venture unless you personally feel there is potential in the songs going forward.
