Hi, my name's James and I've been doing this project for years and years:
http://www.neoferns.com
I'm now looking to get a permanent line-up together. I'm based in south London
At present the music is a folk-rock style. Influences come from the classic mentions of Bob Dylan, Neil Young and Nick Drake.
Whilst more contemporaries include Elliott Smith, the work of Conor Oberst, Ryan Adams, M. Ward, Belle and Sebastian etc.
It's always been a solo thing, but I have worked with friends and other musicians live and on recording. Recently I've been thinking of heading in a new direction and as a result I'm looking for permanent band members to take it forward. If you'd like to hear what it's been sounding like so far, the above website has a back catalogue of the things I've home recorded.
I've played a number of high profile shows, such as supporting Wye Oak on their first European headlining date, as well as playing at parties hosted by Beirut and Hot Chip. I had my first single played on 6 Music, Tom Robinson likes it! and recently I've been working with Tom Hopkins of the band New Build and long term engineer of Hot Chip. I've also been in the studio with Sam Beer of The Treetop Flyers.. so stuff is happening, but it's time to move forward.
I'm looking for dedicated band members, with the commitment to rehearse at least once a week. I'm looking for core band membership; bass, drums, keys, electric guitar, but if you're able to play several instruments then it's you I'm looking for in particular. If you own a hurdy gurdy, a lapsteel or a trombone… great!
Now it's to become a full banded project, the direction totally depends on those who join me, so we could make it as rocky as My Morning Jacket, or as epic as The Arcade Fire, who knows?
