OK - heres the deal - I am a very experienced drummer (36 years - I am 50 now). Over the years I've played in many cover bands and I am currently in one that I do enjoy. It started out as a project that wanted to be on the heavier side, but over the years it has been watered down so that we have started to introduce more 'crowd pleasers' into the set (think Summer of 69, All these things, Sex on Fire), despite my protestations. Not that I mind too much - I will play anything, and would want to continue with this band (at least in the short term).
But to cut a long story short I've just come back from LA at a Rock and Roll Fantasy camp, with Dave Mustaine and Zakk Wilde, whom I jammed and played with at The Whiskey A Go Go. This whole experience has reignited my passion for Metal and Hard Rock and made me realise that I need to stop pretending - life's too short.
Essentially, I am looking to start a 'passion project', without compromise. Rather than adjusting set lists to please the venues we play, I just want to play venues that love the well chosen music that we do play. Sure it may limit venues, but I would be happy to gig once a month and jam/practice a couple fo times a month.
Thinking of pitching the project as a tribute to Metal - with classic songs by the likes of Dio, Megadeth, BLS, Ozzy, Sabbath, Priest, Scorpions, GnR, Motley Crue, to name a few, but you get the idea! Maybe even a bit of Grunge - AIC, Soundgarden...
Obviously for such a project, it will require some top players and vocals too - so no pressure. But I just thought I'd throw it out there and see if there are any other like-minded individuals with the same interests/tastes in this genre. Age is unimportant as long as you have the experience, ability, gear, transport, are a team player and have an open mind. Not asking for a lot am I
As for line-up I'm thinking Drums, Bass, Lead, Rhythm, Vox. I have great gear and rehearsal room at my house, but open to practice elsewhere.
Alternatively, if there are any similar bands that need a drummer, I'd be interested if you are local to Northwich/Chester (within M56, M6 corridor) - if so, I'd like to stress I am not looking for originals, just covers.
I think to start with, a response to this message to gauge interest would be great - but I would be very keen to get this moving ASAP.
Thanks for reading and hopefully killing it with some classic Rock and Metal!
Peace and out \m/
