"The role of a drummer is to make everyone else sound good". Not sure who said that but I agree.
Hi, I’m Barney and I am a versatile and experienced drummer with groove, feel and sensitivity. I‘ve been playing for nearly four decades, on and off, and although my background is pop/rock, I can play most styles. I aim to play only what is needed to make the music shine and sound it’s best. It’s not about me, it’s about the music! My YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFGyO3C382ki6WqL30Gk5dg) has me playing along to a few songs that I like and like to play.
I am open to all suggestions: needing some real drums on your latest project/track? - I’m your man!! Hopefully, there will at least be some like-minded musicians and collaborators around to jam, make music and be in ‘the flow’ with, which is really what it's all about for me. Ideally you will be reasonably serious about it, competent (ie. can actually play) and will have a level of commitment to making music, doing what you love, and seeing where it all goes!
I am fortunate to have moved to a house which has enough space to rehearse, play and record, situated around 45mins from central London (RG27), and I work from home, so time is my own. I drive and can travel for gigs, rehearsals or whatever. Or you can come here!
Drummers I admire include Steve Gadd, Charlie Watts, Ringo, Jim Keltner, Mick Fleetwood, Fabs Moretti, Woody Woodmansey and many other nameless session drummers playing on iconic classic pop and rock tracks. Simple, straightforward and, to me, ‘perfect’ drumming.
Other influences include: Tame Impala, The Strokes, Van Morrison, Bowie, TalkTalk, Paul Weller, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Byrds, CSNY, JJ Cale, Doors, Beatles, Stones, REM, Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Fleetwood Mac, Public Service Broadcasting, Led Zeppelin, Alison Krauss, Daft Punk, Roxy Music, Brian Eno, First Aid Kit, Marvin Gaye, Lou Reed, Penguin Cafe Orchestra, Miles Davis, Simon & Garfunkel, Neil Young, Handel, Beethoven, Jaques Loussier, Mozart, LCD Soundsystem, Clash, Jam, ABBA and many, many others…
Thanks for reading and looking forward to hearing from you, Macca!
