Hello
Me (a guitarist) and a drummer are looking to put together a new band.
The details are somewhat scratchy so far...Ideally, I’d like to be able to say “We want to start a band that sounds like X, Y and Z”. However, we don’t actually know that what we want it to sound like and thought it would be much more fun if we just turned up at a rehearsal space with a view to seeing what happened.
We’ve played in bands before, both with each other and in separate stuff. We have loads of touring/recording experience, we like beer and having a laugh.
Music/influences-wise we’re pretty open to suggestions and listen to loads of different rock-type stuff. We’ve were in the same Modern Life Is War-type hardcore band previously, so we’d probably like avoid going down the hardcore route again. Like I said, we have absolutely no idea what this is going to sound like, all we know is we want it to sound a) big and b) soulful. And by soulful I don’t mean like soul music.
However, here’s some things we’d like to avoid:
1) Anything that involves the following words: ‘funk’, ‘prog’, ‘grunge’. Or any fusion of the aforementioned words. For instance ‘grunge-funk’. Actually, add ‘grunge-metal’ to that list as well.
2) Covers.
3) Slap bass. The only people who think slap bass is awesome are people who play slap bass. No-one else cares.
4) Anyone who thinks that music is going to be their ‘career’. We have jobs and lives...
5) Dudes who think the Chilli Peppers and Rage Against The Machine are badass. It’ll never work.
So, if you’re a bassist/singer/guitarist who’s looking for a band, let me know on here or send an email to:
Likewise, if you want to hear what we've done before, let me know and I’ll point you in direction of some songs. We’re aiming to practise around the Croydon area as that’s pretty central to us.
