Although I am currently playing open-mic gigs with covers (e.g. Ian Brown, The Cars, The Smiths, Doves, Editors, The The, James) I am starting to audition my own material in that context.
My immediate goal is to soon start gigging a half-hour's worth of original material (hopefully in collaboration with someone like-minded; happy to work on new music together, perhaps what you or I have written already if we can find common ground?) around Manchester and then beyond a bit if we can get some momentum? Specifically, I want to do gigs in venues like Night and Day and the Deaf Institute to start, venues known for bands with something different about them, so this music needs to have edge, and I am really keen on it being a serious endeavour---I'm not talking about a message but I don't want it to be background music. I want people to stop and say WTF this is lush! (to quote a Geordie phrase)--I want, no neeeeed, to download this now! That sort of thing. Yes, the groove is all in a way, but I want people to be moved in some way too. I don't have any delusions, but local success is certainly within grasp.
Do you feel the same? Because, and I am sorry to be blunt, that is the kind of like-mindedness I need to hook up with. If so then let us proceed.
I'm comfortable singing up front and playing lead but also comfortable to share those roles as I am skilled in laying a groove with bass and rhythm parts through a looper, as well as ambient fills with effects, bass, vocals, strings etc.
I have gigged original material in a former band about 10 years ago around Liverpool and Manchester, but this is a new venture. Most importantly musically to me: the groove, always sprinkled with funk; spacey, memorable guitar parts; ambient soundscape; ambiguous and thought-provoking lyrics.
I would prefer some collaboration of song-writing, singing, guitar, keys, bass and/or percussion/drums. I like building a song with the use of a looper and it leaves space for lots of different kinds of mutual contribution.
So, I have some other songs in the pipeline, but after listening to what is here (more on the way) if you think it is up your street then let's meet for a coffee or a jam. Contact me on e_christianson (at) y(closed up)mail (dot) com

Oh, and I am 52 so I'm an old f*cker! To be fair though, most people guess mid-30s when they see me : ) So I understand if that's an issue...
